Thor-Kristian Island is a psychiatrist, psychotherapist and group analyst in private practice in Oslo, Norway. He is co-founder of Institute of Group Analysis (Norway) and he has been Director of IGA (Norway) for ten years. He left that position this year. He was also co-founder of the Norwegian Group Psychotherapy Association. He is training group analyst, supervisor and theory lecturer, as well as one of the large group conductors at the group analytic training program in Norway, since 1989. He has also been large group conductor at the AGPA annual conference in New York and IAGP congress in Rome, Italy and Cartagena, Colombia as well as large group conductor at many national and international symposia.
He has been committee member of EGATIN and member of the management committee of GAS (London). He was chair of the 13th Group Analytic Symposium in Molde, Norway in 2005. He has also been member of the Board of Directors of IAGP.
He has presented papers related to group analytic training as well as practice at several international congresses.
